Keith Piper is a visual artist and academic. He was a founding member of the British BLK Art Group (active 1979–1984). Over the past four and a half decades, he has exhibited nationally and internationally. Utilizing a research-driven, site-specific process, he has developed a particular interest in the ways in which history and social relationships can be articulated through artwork and narration. His approach to media has ranged widely; over the years, he has produced paintings, sculpture, installations, lens-based media, and interactive projects. 22 Yards of Earth blends live-action with digital montage to explore themes of race, empire, and the history of cricket.

Commissioned by the Biennale of Sydney and Samstag Museum of Art with generous assistance from Mark and Louise Nelson, and British Council in Sydney.
